The Soldier

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Why don't they print stuff like THAT on the front page of the newspapers or read it in one of their newscasts??

Thank you for being the wife of a soldier who is standing in the gap for the rest of us here at home. I can't imagine how hard either of your lives are. But I'm so grateful that you are willing to live them. xoxoxo

I agree damama why dont we see more good things on the front page of the paper anymore. All we hear about the troops lately is the bad stuff, why dont they tell everyone about the schools they've cleared weapons out of so the kids can go to school again or the hospitals they've cleared out and set up or any of the countless other things that they are doing to make lives better over there.
I am a proud of my husband and our friends and I love being a military wife - even when it sucks!
